Welcome to the forum, Gregg. Good luck at Sill (I got a buddy going FAOBC there in August). If you have any questions, about 50% (give or take ) of our members are redlegs.

'G.I. Joe', eh? Doesn't 'G.I.' stand for 'Government Issue'?

Anyway, welcome to the Forums.

Well....since I'm assuming "Fire Support Specialist" has something to do with Artillery, 'G.I' doesn't apply to you either way. Just don't tell your son that I said that.

G.I. is a nickname meaning Government Issue (you were correct in that part at least ) coming from the fact that everything the Soldier used was issued, and generated the joke that the Soldier himself was "G.I." as well.

So "G.I." does (or soon will) apply to Gregg, Cadet.

yes fire support specialist has something to do with artillery. we find their targets for them...without being shot first.
