Gunmen have seized City Hall in Bethlehem in the West Bank, Palestinian security officials say.
At least 15 members of the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade, which is linked to ruling Fatah party, ordered staff to leave and closed the doors.
The activists also occupied the rooftop overlooking Manger Square, near where Jesus is said to have been born.
Witnesses said they were demanding that the Palestinian Authority pay their salaries, Reuters news agency reported.
