Post; Ground Defense #59/December 1979

Cover Photo Caption: The AMX 32 from GIAT France, intended for export. It has aroused great interest in the Arab countries in particular.

NOTE> Developed in both 105mm and 120mm cannon versions. The 120mm version was unofficially known as the AMX 40. Never recieved any orders. Most nations by that time were totally disallusioned by French MBTs because of the AMX 30.

Dear Member,

Just a line drawing. I think the orginal Shir 1 (an improved Chieftan) were sold to Jordan due to the 1980 embargo. The Shir II used advance armor and I don't think (don't quote me) they were ever manufactured.

BTW> Some trivia. I did an article on the BAC Rapier. I was told by the manufactures that Iran during the Iran-Iraq War offered BAC a fortune if they would sell some Rapier missiles to another country who would then pass them on to Iran. They were the main defense for Kharg Island oil loading station.
