<description><![CDATA[I see a growing trend in militaries who put little enfisis on hand to hand combat training. I know that many asian militaries have great training programs and the Marine's have a decent one.

As a practitioner of Jujitsu (the martial art that most hand to hand combat systems are based off of) I see a need in enforcing this almost forgotten aspect. Punches, kicks are definately not sufficient for the war we are fighting today which has us often very close to the enemy.

Thoughts?]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[hello!
ok. I am new to this site so please just bare with me if this is the wrong section or something. I joined this site to get positive advice about a worry I have. I been in the army reserves for over a year and a half now, recently I decided to go army active duty, (already switched). Anyways knowing that active is a lot different then reserves I decided to start working out harder to prepare myself for going to Fort Drum at the end of Dec. First day I started working out again I did like 22 push ups and couldn't do anymore, (in AIT i could twice that many), well the next day I realize I was in a lot of pain in my stomach area and physically could not do PT. I decided after the pain was still there a week later I had pulled something during my first day back at PT, so I gave it another week of rest. Now it feels moderately better ,BUT anytime I try to do push ups now, I can do like 13 and I hit muscle failer. I have only ever failed one PT test and that was in basic. Please give me any positive advice. I would love to get back up to 40. Please help. :box:

			<title>Military research</title>

<description><![CDATA[I'm not sure if this is the right section but seeing as there isn't a research forum I thought I might as well ask here.

So I am writing a video game pitch for a school class that I'm in ( Don't ask, I'm unable to give a good reason why this is a project) but the good news is that I'm an avid gamer and have a basic idea about what I want to include, and more importantly what to ask you guys.

So my game is going to be pretty similar to say rainbow six or call of duty, small elite strike forces taking on larger groups of goons/ taking out high value targets. So first question.

1. I want the main "good guy" force to be some sort of special forces type thing (wow I'm realizing just how uneducated I sound right now) It could be a known force like the SAS or Delta force, or it might be a made up thing like rainbow six. Basically, Where do these forces recruit, do they just take promising men from the other branches or is some sort of application?

2. My story calls for this squad/ group to be doing some pretty insane stuff, fast roping out of helicopters, proficiency with a multitude of weapons, speaking various languages. Stuff (not quite sure what it would be called) like the first level of Call of Duty 4 where the SAS team just waltzes on to an oil tanker and kills everyone on it to get to the nuclear warhead. Would Delta (to my understanding more or less america's SAS) actually be doing stuff like that, globe trotting on completly black missions? or would they be training afgan soilders like the US army special forces?

3. that brings me to my next point, I have read about Rangers, SEALs Green berets (which to my understanding are army spec ops) are any of them qualified to do what I have been describing? ( I'd think that SEAls would be the best pick out of the three but I know little)

4. In this new CoD game (worth playing BTW) there are a whole lot of new acessories, things like thermal scopes, underbarrel shotguns, and even a heartbeat sensor. While I know that thermal scopes and RIS shotguns do exist would they be issued to the groups I've mentioned? On the more iffy side of things, are those Heartbeat sensors, and UAV infantry missile guidance things real? I would imagine either 1. No or 2. your not allowed to talk about it.

Thats pretty much it, Thanks for the help, I feel that between this excellent site, Wikipedia and a few books that I have I should be able to cobble together a semi- realistic story line that has at least some vestige of informed truth in it.

			<title>Brief Naval Engagement along NLL</title>
			<link>http://www.military-quotes.com/forum/brief-naval-engagement-along-nll-t79528.html</link>

			<description><![CDATA[http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSTRE5A90FC20091110

There was a brief naval clash near Beakryoung-do which is near the North-South Korea Northern Limit Line.
The North Korean patrol ship entered South Korean waters, refused to leave after being warned and returned fire when South Korea fired some warning shots.
The engagement ended with the South Korean ship riddling the North Korean one with bullets.

The motive is yet to be determined but I wouldn't be surprised if it were multiple.
One probably has something to do with President Obama's upcoming Asia tour... why invest in billboards when you can have a naval engagement?
The North Koreans may have been surprised. The naval ROEs regarding North Korean ships in South Korean waters have been... shall we say... simplified. :pirate2:

http://news.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2009/11/10/2009111001356.html?Dep0=chosunnews&Dep1=hotnews&Dep2=news01 (Korean)

http://news.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2009/11/10/2009111001358.html (Korean)
Reports 1 NK dead and 3 wounded. 15 bullet holes found on South Korean patrol boat but no casualties according to the South Korean Chairman of Joint Chiefs.

Interesting thing I'm reading down at the comments.
Lots of criticism (and that's a nice word for some of the things they're saying) is directed at the late Kim Dae-jung for his sunshine policy.
Usually it's not what you read on Korean message boards. One guy I think was talking about Noh Moo-hyeon (the guy who committed suicide) but it's replaced with "OO" instead of his name. Maybe because it's not been too long since his suicide.

Possible motivations:
- Profile raising for President Obama's visit.
- Measuring the South Korean Naval response (and seeing how this is affected by the political climate in South Korea).
- Raise anti-South Korean sentiment in North Korea by claiming the North had been harassed.

Or any combination of the above... or all of the above.
At this point it's a bit early to tell.

The warning shots were fired at 1136 Hours on Nov 10th 2009 and the North Koreans and South Koreans exchanged accurate gunfire at 1137.
There's also some shouting in the press about how the 130 ton South Korean ship with lighter armament than the 215 ton North Korean ship won the shootout.

			<title>the anzus treaty?</title>
			<link>http://www.military-quotes.com/forum/anzus-treaty-t79524.html</link>
			<pubDate>Tue, 10 Nov 2009 05:17:04 GMT</pubDate>
<description><![CDATA[the ANZUS treaty was signed in 1951 and originally was a three way defence cooperation treaty between new zealand, australia and the united states. The treaty is now only between australia and the united states after new zealand withdrew (1984) over disagreements on nuclear issues. The ANZUS treaty is now understood to require the signatories to come to each others defense, like how after the september the 11th 2001 attacks australia responded under provisions of the ANZUS treaty, and considered the attack on the twin towers as an attack on australia its self which justified our actions in the Afghanistan war.

*enough of the history lesson... what i wanted to know is that if australia was attacked directly would the united states come to our aid?*
*i personally believe the US would but many have suggested that they may not and this has shaped our defence policy...

so what i would like to know is would the US assist us militarily?
what would be the public's opinion if they did ?
and more importantly do you personally think they would?

please raise any other points you think is relevant to this...

			<title>New Military Poem - RIP</title>

<description><![CDATA[A new military poem, regarding a young soldier who has just lost his life in Afghanistan, as told by his father on the 6th Novembeer morning Remembrance Day parade 2009 at the Cenotaph. I am waiting to ascertain whether it was written by father or son. Either way it is very poignant :-

GET FELL IN TO THE REAR OF THE COLUMN.

"There is in the eternal realms a great line of men
Who march along a long winding road.
Their task is to collect the dead of ages
Taken from the ranks of the fallen.

After midnight on the 30th of May 2009
The great line halts, and a Sgt Major’s voice rings out..
Not as on the parade ground, but in the solemn silence increased
The short command is given, "Get fell in, to the rear of the column"

Two soldiers take their place, adjust their equiptment, and calm their troubled expressions.
These fallen two shoulder arms
And the great line of men
The dead of ages, taken from the ranks of the fallen
Moves off at a slow march

Winding its way along the long winding road
Almost out of sight, the line visably halts, and a Sgt Major’s voice rings out
"Get fell in to the rear of the column"
And we who mortals be
Strain to hear the sound of their marching feet".

As soon as I have the author's name and pack drill I will add it. RIP.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Okay, my husband is considering going into the army. He got a 97 on his ASVAB and wants to do something in computers or languages. My concern is him spending the whole time in Afghanistan or Iraq. I know there is a possibility of being shipped off and I am okay with it as long as it is not the whole time. So my questions: Is it a definite that he will be deployed? Is he at least going to be trained in whatever he is going for first, or is that not likely either? Is there a field that is less likely to get deployed? I keep hearing these stories of people going into the military and they spend 90% of the whole term away from their family. I know some of you might think that I am overreacting, but we have a one year old and I want to make sure that he is aware of the reality when it comes to how much time he may actually have to spend away from his little girl. Please help, we don't know how to make this decision. It seems like the most stable thing to do is go into the military, but I want to make sure he knows what he might be sacrificing before he makes the final decision.]]></description>

			<title>FORT HOOD</title>

<description><![CDATA[Whats going on with the USA? I don't know much but a Army Psychiatrist went on a shooting spree outside the soldier readiness center in Fort Hood, which I believe is located in Texas?

12 People killed, eleven died at the scene and one died in the hospital, one of those killed was a civilian police officer. The Major who opened fire with two handguns, was then shot to death by authorities.

This raises real concern for me, and I will tell you why. I am almost a legal adult in this country, and I do care, about it as a private citizen it concerns me that horrible crimes like this are happening in my country's Army.

Particularly the Army, I understand they are the biggest branch, and that crimes like this happen in all branches of the military.

And right now I am just considering the factors, the deployments of the Army are frequent and long, and I also see horrible crimes, including domestic violence and murders in the media around, and even from some friends in the Army around my area at Army instillations well within 45 minutes driving distances.

Now I don't even have to guess that the Fort Hood incident, was no doubt a criminal act not an act of terror.

But I know soldiers, and they are GOOD PEOPLE, thats why I am always comfortable around them, I trust my countries Army, thats why I am always shocked when I hear news like this. Particularly when most of the time it's the Army, I am worried about U.S. Soldiers... Something is gotta be behind it,some factor somewhere or combination of factors, it's the Army, the last place you would hope to find this.]]></description>
