Evolution of the Cross Bow. info

Yesterday after a evening in the woods, I watched as a friend of mine pulled a broad tip bolt out of the dirt where it passed through the now shattered shoulder bone of a pretty good size Doe.

The bolt proved to have plenty of power as the tip was bent from the impact with the bone structure, impressive, but sucks now he has to by a new one.

This instantly brought a interesting thought to mind, what where the orginol applications? And the basic run down on the evolution of this anceint weapon?

Any and all reference materials for reading or comments are very welcome.

If memory serves me correctly, the crossbow was invented in China well before it got to Europe.

Damn clever those Chinese

I'd like to meet the first person to lose the tip of their thump for not pulling their thumb in before firing the weapon.

Then you probably will have to get your shovel out and start digging. Good luck lol.
