This ties in with the information I had as well however there were a couple of twists:
1) Arno Funke said it wasn't him.
2) The area was sanitised (no bodies etc) which led people to believe the pictures were made by a propaganda unit recreating the event.

An interesting read indeed, the fact that this young soldier survived the Russian onslaught and lived to tell his story that many years later is truly amazing.

P.S can anybody help me identify my Avatars unit albeit I already know it is Luftwaffe ?
