What are you insinuating, Spike? That, because I stick up for gays, I am somehow less of a man?

I said Gays and Lesbians tend to be more liberal and less supportive of the military. Example: San Fransisco wanting the military recruiters out of their city. People who tend to be less supportive of the military are not going to join. What is so hard to understand about that Rob? Why can't you except what is written? And the one's who are Liberace types are not going to want to get down in the mud. If Gay's and Lesbians think the are joining a dating service, they will be very disappointed. If they think the military will change the dress code so they can were Versace, they will be disappointed. Being openly gay in the military does not mean they will be able to do as they please. They will have to conform to military regulations. They won't get to add a splash of color or a boa to their uniform.

The men and women who are gay and in the military know full well what they are getting themselves in to. It's a volunteer force, after all... They're giving their service freely, therefore, they realize what's expected of them and what's to be expected from the military.

I don't know that you can speak for what gays in the military know or expect from a change in the policy, unless you are gay and in the military. Most people, when joining the military, do not know all they are getting themsleves into. That is why some come to this forum and ask. As your rather broad term states:"Although I do think any gay man "straight" enough to enter the military would be willing to go into combat." qoute Rob Henderson, tends to exclude "effiminate gays", which is what I said. And what you reaffirmed when you said. "effeminate gay men probably won't want to join the military in the first place." Thanks for supporting and clarifying my point. Note: "adding a splash of color or a boa to their uniform." That was just to add a "splash" to my post. Last edited by Chukpike; October 13th, 2009 at 16:00.. Reason: a note

PS, your posts have plenty of "splash." Unnecessary "splash" can confuse a reader, as we do not have the luxury of vocal inflection and body language.

A lot of military posts are not combat roles Perhaps the most fearsome combat soldiers ever formed, probably consisted of a very large proportion of gay men. I'm all in favour of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with typewriters. Frank Lloyd Wright

"effeminate gay men will not seek combat roles" I think its probably fair to say that this is a non-issue as I dont see that many Effeminate Gay men joining the military at all, they generally shy away from that sort of thing. Well, their only two ways homosexuals will ever be allowed to serve openly in the U.S. military. First, Congress can amend federal law, Title 10, 654. Secondly, the Supreme Court can rule that section of 654 unconstitutional. They have already overturned state sodomy laws. A few cases using that as a precedence are working their way toward the court. They refused to hear the first one that landed at their feet. More to come. Either of those two President Obama can not do much about, despite his speeches. Now one of the current Federal Court cases will be interesting. The Judge has demanded that the Air Force explain why homosexuals have a negative impact on Good Order and Discipline. I'll be curious to see what they come up with. |
