Post; Does Anyone Remember...

Anyone remember what a lister bag was?

Also, somewhere on the forums, someone asked where the term "Geronimo" used by WWII paratroopers came from. I read in the book "Beyond Band of Brothers, Major Winters' Memoirs" that there was a popular song at that time named "Geronimo" and it came from that song, but was discouraged by the Officers and training cadre.

A lister bag is a canvas bag used to hold water for dispensing to troops during field exercises, etc. It ha a couple of dispensing spouts near the bottom. It was about two feet in diameter on the bottom and usually hung from a tripod or a tree branch.

Down from Heaven

Down from Heaven comes ELEVEN
and there's HELL to pay below
shout "GERONIMO" "GERONIMO".

Hit the silk and check your canopy
and take a look around
The air is full of troopers
set for battle on the ground

Till we join the stick of ANGELS
killed on Leyte and Luzon
shout "GERONIMO" "GERONIMO".

It's a gory road to glory
but we're ready here we go
shout "GERONIMO" "GERONIMO"

And the water tasted like canvas, I can remember that taste today.
