Democrats Yield On Pentagon Budget

Congressional Democrats dropped plans to tie the Pentagon budget to a labor and education measure President Bush has vowed to veto. Democrats instead plan to merge the bill with a popular measure funding veterans' programs and military base construction.
The White House has said Congress should pass separate spending bills. Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., said merging bills helps move the budget process along.
