isn't LIPS based in Tassie?

Well at least in Melbourne, you can drive around without getting lost. Its the best city for driving and it offers more than any other city
You've gotta be freaking kidding me. Melbourne is not good to drive in at all. Trams, Tollways, Hookturns etc etc etc (by the way I've just spent 9 frustrating days there so I'm fresh from the experience). Have you ever been to Adelaide, let alone driven there. It is so easy (By comparisson) due to the "intelligent" layout of everything in a total grid pattern, no Tolls, no hook turns. The trams run separate to the roads (except for a small section).
And as for Melbourne offering more than any other city, your beaches suck. St. Kilda especially.

As for LIPS being in Tassie, if my memory serves correctly... he's in 3RAR, so that counts TAS out doesn't it

Im surprised that you consider melbourne a hard place to drive in. You should try Sydney then, now thats where its hectic to drive. By the way, Adelaide is a city for the elderly. :P

Our beaches suck, you got me there, but at least Melbourne has character.

Gold Coast is easy, just drive up the Gold Coast highway and you won't miss a thing. Who goes to the Gold Coast to see what's inland?

Well as an outsider in this discussion I think I have to agree with AussieNick, Melbourne is the a pain in the butt to drive around I dont think it is hard just annoying and I really like Adelaide its a really well thought out city.

As for beaches well you both lose out to the Sunshine coast on that one but Melbourne wins in the "most things to do" catagory.

As for the original issue of having to cover your own medical expenses at recruitment thats kind of harsh, I dont know of any other military that requires that.

They're not as eager to get us in as those in the US.

Just to set the record straight:

I left 3RAR in 2004 and was posted to Tassie on promotion and next year I will be posted to Singleton.

Tassie is like being in a time-warp, you go back about 20 years down here. The people are nice as long as you stay away from the "pov" areas. Driving and generally getting around is really good compared to what I was used to.

For Wallaby:

See you at Singleton next year.
