Post; Criticism over MP deaths at hands of mob

From the BBC: Criticism over Redcaps Deaths

"Six Red Caps [British Military Police] killed by a mob in Iraq in 2003 should have been better equipped, but their deaths could not have been avoided, a coroner has said. Coroner Nicholas Gardiner said he would write to the defence secretary in an attempt to prevent further fatalities.
But the military policemen's relatives said Scotland Yard should investigate and that officers responsible for mistakes should be court-martialled.
A narrative verdict of unlawful killing was recorded over the deaths."

This was a dreadful story. The MPs were in the area training local police.
They had no more than 50 rounds each and no satellite communications; their radios were out of range of base. Unfortunately nobody had passed down the word that Muqtadr al-Sadr's forces had been gaining strength in the area. A patrol from the British Parachute Regiment [unaware that the MPs were there] engaged al-Sadr's forces, but was forced to withdraw. A mob then stormed the Police station and beat and shot the MPs to death.
