| Forums Grumpy Old Man | Post; COMMIDEASTFORINST 16134 (Tongue-in-Cheek)The following directive was issued by the commanding officer of a Naval installation somewhere in the Middle East, and it was obviously directed at the Marines. Everyone knows the Marines drift a little off center!! It couldn't be about Navy personnel, we wouldn't be that creative. ================================================== ==== To: ALL COMMANDS Subject: INAPPROPRIATE T-SHIRTS Ref: COMMIDEASTFORINST 16134.2 1. All commanders promulgate upon receipt. 2. The following T-shirts are no longer to be worn on or off base by any military or civilian personnel serving in the Middle East: a. "Eat Pork Or Die" [both English and Arabic versions] b. "Shrine Busters" [Various. Show burning minarets or bomb/artillery shells impacting Islamic shrines. Some with unit logos.] c. "Napalm, Sticks Like Crazy Glue" [Both English and Arabic versions] d. "Goat - it isn't just for breakfast any more." [Both English and Arabic versions] e. "The road to Paradise begins with me." [Mostly Arabic versions but some in English. Some show sniper scope cross-hairs] f. "Guns don't kill people. I kill people." [Both Arabic and English versions] g. "Pork. The other white meat." [Arabic version] h. "Infidel" [English, Arabic and other coalition force languages.] 3. The above T-shirts are to be removed from Post Exchanges upon receipt of this directive. 4. The following signs are to be removed upon receipt of this message: a. "Islamic Religious Services Will Be Held at the Firing Range At 0800 Daily." b. Thought you would see the humor in it.

| Forums Grumpy Old Man | bulldogg Don't I wish - I used to have an Indian friend (during the Shah's reign) that would have been happy to oblige me - have no idea where he is now. Don't even know if he's still living. Maybe one of our Arabic speaking friends out there would oblige us ?????? |

| Tribunus Laticlavius | Tried to find an online free translator but can not seem to find one to use. By the by, I took a SLAC (Survival Level Arabic Course) class and much of the humor (read slang) does not translate to Arabic. I tried telling a blonde joke to the instructor's friend (Not sure what country he was from) and he did not get the joke at all. I then explained it in english and he laughed, told me my translation was correct, but the humor did not translate. Much to my chagrin, and the aggravation of my classmates, the instructor then gave a 2 hour long lecture on culture and humor and the pitfalls therein. |
