About Is China as powerful as the former Soviet Union or weaker?

Does China's current military strength match the former Soviet Union? In 1989, the USSR had 4,178,000 troops, 60,000 tanks, 6800 combat aircrafts, 620 warships, 8500 surface to air missiles, 2400 intercontinental missiles, and 35,000 nukes. The USSR's technology at the time was equal to the US.

NO.

In 20 years maybe. But even after 20 years, China will not have that many allies as USSR had got. But I don't think China wants to be a Global Superpower in military sense, China's focus will be in Asia.

Plus for China theres dependence on oil from Arab nations, don't think U.S.S.R. had that problem.

Flying Frog is correct, however Id venture to say that Chinese troops may be better motivated then their Russian counterparts, who have had to deal with defense rollbacks and poor standards ever since the collapse. That being said, Putin may be able to rally the average Russian soldiers moral against foreign terrorists, but not a foreign army.

China's current military strength is no match for former Soviet Union in almost every area.Maybe China's army can compare with Soviet Union in population.but who can tell what the exact population of china's army is?

It may take even longer than 20 years, They still do not even have a Carrier. Most of thier military is also outdated, so it may take longer than 20 years

China doesn't need as much sophisticated euqipment as other countries bevause there are so many of them.

I know that it sounds stupid but they are very disciplined, the views on taking casualties are not the same as in the western world. It is more acceptable to take heave casualties.

If of some reason the chinese want to expand there land they just going to start marching. You gonna need nukes to stop them.

Don't underestimate them. They do have some advance euqipment too.
