Post; Castro becomes muslim?!

IRAN's AYATOLLAHS INVITE CUBAN LEADER TO BECOME A MUSLIM

AKI ^ | 22-Nov-05

Tehran, 22 Nov. (AKI) - Iran's religious authorities in the holy Shiite city of Qom have officially invited Cuba's revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, to convert to Islam, according to Hojatolislam Mohammad Reza Hakimi, quoted by Iran's Farda news agency. "I met Castro together with the Iranian foreign minister, Saiid Salili, and gave him some sacred Islamic texts translated into Spanish," said Hakimi, who recently returned from a government visit to Cuba.

"We spoke with Castro for several hours, and I think I almost managed to convince him to become a Muslim," Hakimi added. "Castro certain that Cuba is suffering from a lack of spirituality, and seems very interested in Islam, above all in the writing of Iran's revolutionary leader, Ayatallah Khomeini," Hakimi continued.

Khomeini in 1989 invited Mikhail Gorbachev, former president of the Soviet Union, to renounce Communism and to convert to Islam. Gorbachev's political and economic reforms in the mid-1980s triggered the non-violent transition from authoritarian to democratic forms of government in Eastern Europe, and from state-controlled to more free-market economies.

No no no no no this is not even funny. A fanatical muslim enclave 90 miles off shore from Key West with a islamic terrorist holding ground on their own shore at Gitmo. I do not like the math on this one. If Cuba were to truly embrace the faith it would have DIRE consequences for the US.

Neither can I but it would certainly muster some new life into an otherwise dead in the water revolution.

Hahahahaha, I doubt whether he can bend over 5 times a day. But it would be mighty interesting: a communist form, where capitalism and the islam go hand in hand?

Marx and the rest would roll over in their graves...

Folks

This is ridiculous. Communism hated religon of all types. Karl Marx referred to religon as "the opiate of the masses". Throughout the communist world there was a purge of religon. To say Castro is going to convert to Islam is like nominating Hitler for the nobel peace prize.

I doubt Cuba is "purged of all religion". Many of them are christians.

It's just that if Castro is an atheist, he still wouldn't say "your religion is a load of b******t" to the ayatollah's face.

Religion was rarely rooted out in total. There often were hidden orthodox churces in de CCCP and there are many catholics in Cuba. By the state never acknowledged religion, see mmarsh remark on "opium for the masses".
I also think that Fidel would say "stuff it" to an ayatollah is a very slim possibility.

Churches had to be hidden in the USSR?

In east Germany, the state didn't like religion, but it was tolerated.
