Post; Castle's

Where I live there are a large number of Castles, and being a military forum I thought it might be an interest to a few of the members. I will add another castle to the thread every now again. This Castle is in a small fishing port on the south coast of England called Rye and this area was prone to raids by the French when they got a bit short of cash or other things. This Castle was built in the 14th Century it was last attacked in 1449. the was updated during the 15 & 16 th Century.

Another Castle that is near me is Hurstmonceux, it was built in 1441 yet all the wars passed it by, it sits in middle of some marshy ground and does command a road a hill or a port so it does not have any military significance so war has never touched it.

i say we lay siege to them now, see how well they stand against our modern military , i think its pointless to have a building standing for 500+ years w/o a purpose :P. jk.

Hurstmonceux is quite majestic.

While I was taking photographs I came across this pill box from WW2. On the Marshes near Wichelsea I found another pill box hiden in a hedge row that still had the wooden platforms in it for tripods for the machine guns. [img][/img]http://

[img]http...

Redleg, Old Castles always have some thing about them, I can't quite put my finger on it, but I always think of of the soldiers over countless generations that have done a spell of duty from these places.
