LONDON, Sept 4, 2006 (AFP) - Two British soldiers were injured in an attack
on a military convoy in Basra in southern Iraq on Monday, the Ministry of
Defence said.

"There are two British casualties. However the extent and seriousness of
their injuries is not yet known," said a ministry spokeswoman, adding that
no further details were immediately available.

Basra has become increasingly restive in recent months amid a stand-off
between rival Shiite militias and clashes between British forces and groups
opposed to the US-led coalition in Iraq.
