Defense Secretary Des Browne confirmed that Britain would send 1,400 more troops to Afghanistan in the coming months. The move will bring Britain’s troop level in Afghanistan to around 7,700. Mr. Browne told Parliament that while Britain was “shouldering a greater share of the burden” for NATO in Afghanistan than it would like, the new deployment followed “unequivocal” military advice that the troops were needed.
