Boeing says on track to bid for India fighter jet contract

NEW DELHI (Dow Jones)--Boeing Co. (BA:Boeing Co.
<img class="pixelTracking" border="0" height="1" width="1">BA 78.43, -0.17, -0.2%) Wednesday said it is on track to submit a bid for selling 126 combat planes to the Indian Air Force later this month.
Boeing has placed its F/A-18 fighter for the deal for a total estimated cost of $10 billion.
"We plan to put it on April 28, which is the last date set by the government...or maybe perhaps a few days before," Vivek Lall, vice president and India country head for Boeing's Integrated Defense Systems, said on the sidelines of an industry conference.
The F/A-18 is in competition with Russian Aircraft Corp.'s MiG's MIG-35, Saab AB's (SAAB-B.SK) JAS-39 Gripen, Dassault Aviation SA's (12172.FR) Rafale, Lockheed Martin's F-16 Falcon and the Eurofighter Typhoon.
The Indian defense ministry had earlier set March 3 as the last date to receive bids from fighter jet makers but extended it to April 28 at the end of February.
"We were ready with our documents earlier," Lall said when asked if Boeing had made any changes to its bid documents since the dates were extended.
