SIGNORNA and Good Riddence! Blackwater calls its itself a "Private Military Army". If that isn't the definition of a Mercenary I dunno what is. Hiring of Mercenaries is banned under the Geneva Conventions. (So is torturing prisoners, but whose counting?) During Hurricane Katrina they were hired to protect the homes of New Orleans rich people, and Patrolled the neighborhood claiming that had both arrest and use of dead force authorization. The odd thing is nobody in neither the State or the Federal Government has yet confirmed this. So we have a private illegal Merc company operating in a Iraq and a Private Police force operating at home. Whew, that makes me feel so much better... Private Security is one thing. But this is something else. The moment we have a REAL president, one of the first orders of business is to deal with this type of 'business'. The last thing America needs to to be run by MERCS for sale to the highest bidder. I mean last week in Iraq when 14 civvies got wasted is what happens when you let the 'dogs of war' out of the kennel.

The Iraqi government has canceled Blackwater's license after a shootout that killed eight civilians. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6998788.stm Blackwater has been ordered out of Iraq, with the exception of those involved in the shootout. Chances of those contractors sticking around to face Iraqi justice? i got to be honest, the idea of private "contractors" (nice way of saying mercenaries) running round iraq has always made me nervous I'm wondering if, with the security provided by Blackwater gone, a whole lot of foreign firms will give up on Iraq. Could this, along with the increasing talk about troop withdrawals, signal the beginning of the Iraq War dénouement?

To my way of thinking, the term "contractors" implies civil works, NOT military duties. I was watching an old movie on YouTube, where they were engaging an unseen enemy from the top of a building, the first thing that came to mind was,.... "damn Cowboys". Lotsa shooting, no observable result, or comment from those involved that would indicate that anyone actually hit anything. The range looked to be excessive for the M4s they were using. I think that one man with a .50cal Barrett and a few blokes for spotting/backup would have achieved much more.
