Bell from HMS Hood recovered

The way she blew up I'm surprised the bell has survived, but is it more or less intact?

umm isnt HMS Hood a war grave?

I was under the impression that recovering any artifacts from a war grave was illegal.

Update:
It would appear that this is a sponsored thing on behalf of the HMS Hood Association...

Despite 74 years of immersion in the hostile depths of Denmark Strait the bell is in very good condition.

There is not really an international law about shipwrecks. Countries can unilaterally ratify their own laws about shipwrecks in their own waters. UNESCO has created some guidelines about how to behave around shipwrecks and there is another UN treaty about shipwrecks, but the majority of countries have not sign it, UNCLOS, I think there is a third version of it now. There are two other laws and the first one is the law of salvage, which is to come to the aid of a ship in distress and save the people on board, this one does not apply for HMS Hood. The second one is controversial, the law of find. If the owner of a shipwreck does not do anything to salvage the wreck or its content, the finder can claim the shipwreck. The UK has the Protection of Military Remains Act 1986 and I would guess HMS Hood is protected by this law even when HMS Hood is not in English waters. However, the bell is going to UK so the MOD must have approved to bringing it up for the creation of a memorial site for the ship and the crew.

I think the US has unilaterally decided to protect Titanic from treasure hunters. It has been discussions between the UK, the US and Canada to protect Titanic, with minor success
