Post; the battle of el alamein

this battle was one of the most inportent in the war for the allies. it stoped the italians and germans from taking over egypt and without this battle the allies would not have been able to land in italy. And no operation torch was not as inportent. not many people know that the british army had 195 000 troops and at least 1000 tanks in this battle wich makes it one of the largest allied build up of troops in the war besides the russian front. Yes it was bigger than the battle of the bulge and more inportant. so in future remember that without el alamein the west would have fallen a lot faster.

knight01......The Italians had already been thrown out of Egypt and their colonies in Eastern Africa. Yes El-Alamien was an important battle on both occasions, the first time it stopped Rommel's advance into Egypt, and on the second it broke his forces and pushed them right back into Tripoli where they were eventually defeated by an Anglo American effort.

How do you equate the the Battle of the Bulge and El-Alamein in the same context. Each battle was very important, for if the Battle of Bulge had been lost then we would have lost the ports at Antwerp and all supplies we had stockpiled there. This could have caused the war to go on for quite a bit longer. By the time we drove Rommel from El-Alamien, there was no chance of Rommel winning the war in North Africa. The Ultra code breakers were informing the Air force of all the movements of Rommel's supply ships and very little was ever getting through to him. With pressure from the Russian front there was too little in reserve for Hitler to reinforce any of these fronts. Although there was a lot of hard fighting to do the writing was clearly on the wall for Hitler.
