Funny how this topic changed from a Barret gun to berets. Even more so if you know that the German word for beret is Barett

I heard of American infantry soldiers showing great respect for German Panzergrenadiere, simply because they were wearing green berets, which lead the Americans into thinking that they corresponded to American Green Berets.

Actually, last I checked, one of the survivors from the Somalia action was trying to rally congress against distributing the sacred black berets to all servicemembers in the Army.

The US Army has been wearing the black beret since 2001. Several hundred former Rangers protested this decision but were unsuccessful.
