Post; Baghdad: Tourist Destination

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/may/06/iraq

Your tax dollars at work.

We invaded and pumped $525 Billion into this country to build a TOURIST ATTRACTION?

Just another place for people with a lot of money to go and economically exploit the locals...

Well at least it will give the "insurgents" something to target and given that your average Iraqi is dirt poor and wont be able to afford to be there it should give them something to hate.

Pfff.... you guys think it's a tourist attraction?!?!?!?!

It's just a New USAF Airbase. Standard operating procedure for the USAF is to build a Golf Course then a Air Strip and Tarmac and them maybe a set of Barracks.

Enough kidding aside...

The US Government is not the only one fronting the money. A International Investment Consortium (ie - PRIVATE BUSINESSES) are also looking into this.

Marriott International - Hotel Company
MBI International - Hotel Company (Arabic Owned)
C3 - Amusement Park Company

I see nothing wrong with this.... These place create jobs. Jobs that are in demand. Once the Iraqi Citizenry have a source of income and are starting to get on with their lives the conflict will die down. It has happened in just about every war torn area of the world that has rebuilt itself from conflict.

Happened in Germany, Japan, Ireland, Vietnam, Sarajevo,Beirut, etc...

It would be nice to build up the infrastructure in Iraq before building luxury hotels and golf courses. Electricity, gas, running water, that sort of stuff, simple stuff that doesn't really make the news.

Makes sense. I read somewhere that Baghdad gets only about 4 hours of electricity per day...
