Post; A bad $70million dollar machine? The C-130j

I've heard a lot about the the j series of the C-130, that it has engine problems, parachuters would hit the fuslage when they jump out, and other horrendous problems that wouldn't even be considered for the production of a military aircraft. However the pentagon has received twice the funds it requested to purchase these new planes because congress wants to use them for the national guard. Why? Because this would bring in government spending for producers and provide military jobs for the congressmen's constituents. Pork Barrel basically.

Here are some pics from a raf site:

and here's and article that talks about the plane from different sources:

It's a good bargain compared to the $110 Million for the JSF.

Uh, no. The Joint Strike Fighter is intended to replace several aging weapons platforms. Compare its costs to the F-22 Rapter and that $110 million doesn't seem like much at all. You can't compare a new system being fielded to an aging system being kept up anyway.

Well, I have jumped a C-130J and have not hit the side of the plane. I think the J model is good and worth the money.

I thought they were replacing the CH-46 with V-22 Osprey due to reliability problems, due to the age of the fleet.
