I was just wondering who on this forum is in the Australian defence force, or is ex ADF?

i plan on joining after i finish my degree.
its a tough choice, if i join, then i miss out on the undergrad job fairs, which would give me a good chance of getting a decent job.
but i really want to join
would like to quality as a para if i did tho

Nick, what do I do with myself? Well Iam married with five kids. I joined in 1986 got to 3RAR in Dec of 1986 and left in 1999 to be posted to The Parachute Training School as an Instructor. Got back to 3RAR in Nov 01 and left there at the start of 2004 to be posted to Hobart. My wife and I have Just bought ourselves a caravan and will tour around Tasamania over the christmas period. We will leave Tas at the end of 05 location unknown at this stage.

Other than that not too much.

scott, what does the RAR stand for? do they have a specialist role or type of warfare speciality?

Royal Australian Regiment

They are the fulltime Infantry Battalions 1RAR, 2RAR, 3RAR, 4RAR, 5/7RAR, 6RAR.

3RAR-Paratroopers

4RAR-Commandos

5/7RAR- Mech Infantry

1 and 2RAR- Airmobile

6RAR- Motorized Infantry

So your a bit of a career soldier are ya scott. Good to hear Trecking around the Tassie should be fantastic.

Locke, why not look at the reserves to start with, you can always go full time if you want, and you may end up landing the graduate job you want. If your a Uni student you should look at trying out for one of the University regiments (reserve), you'll come out as an 2nd Lt.
