People have used elephants as a type of cavalry mount (ie: The Persians), so it could be considered as military equipment....

I think there was a military equipment that got the nickname "elephant" not sure though.
There was a German tankhunter named Elefant or also known as Ferdinand. It's official name was Panzerjäger Tiger (P) Elefant (Sdkfz 184)
But i was thinking of Hannibal's elephants.
