The newest mind exercise, sudoku, uses numbers to challenge and frustrate players. The game's name, sudoku, is the Japanese word for "only single number allowed." The puzzles challenge players to fill in series of nine-by-nine grids with single-digit numbers -- 1 through 9 -- so the numerals appear only once in each row, column and box. Sudoku has devotees all across North Texas and the United States, some of whom admit to being addicted to the puzzles. ![]()
