BAGHDAD, Nov 2 (AFP) - Iraqi police on Wednesday set free 124 Iraqi
prisoners ahead of the Muslim holidays of Eid al-Fitr, a day after some 675
inmates walked free from US-run prison camps.

Iraqi police General Mehdi Sabih told reporters those being released had
been interrogated on suspicion of involvement in terrorism but no charges
were filed against them.

Those released on Tuesday included 500 prisoners from Abu Ghraib on the
outskirts of Baghdad, also to mark the holidays later this week which follow
the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

The jail at Abu Ghraib, notorious during the Saddam Hussein regime, was at
the heart of a 2004 prisoner abuse scandal that tarnished the reputation of
the US military.
