If that were true, then NY would be a Red state. Didn't you watch the last election? Upstate NY Republicans got hammered, several conservative hardliners lost their seats. People upstate are neither red nor blue they are Purple, they like issues like gun rights but they also support lots of populist issues. If you tally up ALL the issues (not just guns) they lean far more left than right. Same goes for New England and states like Montana and Minnesota. They are gun owners who vote Democrat. I can tell you when the slate quarries in the Adirondacks shut down 30 years ago, it was difficult time being a Republican. Wolfen I agree. I have no problem people owning guns for either hunting or protection. But like everything else the government has the right to CONTROL but not BAN these things. If we can (and do) limit free speech, we can limit guns too. Personally I would feel better knowing my mentally disabled neighbor off his meds couldn't buy a gun. We have had 3 major shooting lasts year done by people too mentally sick to own a gun all those guns were bought legally.

| God of Scones | Well, if this is true, I hope it's not passed by the time i'm old enough to own a gun, because as soon as I am, (I'm not sure what the firearm restrictions are for a m-16, M4, MP5, or a pistol. Especially with a supressor.) I'm planning on applying for a conceal-carry license, and try to get a permit to own preferrably an MP5 or M4 with a supressor. And if I can't get those but can get a supressor, i'll settle for a sidearm.

Pistol suppressor (called a can), about $200 to $500 plus the $200 tax stamp (Class II item) M-16: Going rate, about $22,000 Suppressed Title III? Nope. Not without somewhere around $25,000 to spend per weapon, plus the Title III license every year, plus the tax stamps every year, plus the sheriff sign off, plus the Federal liability, plus the state acceptance. There is a LOT that goes into getting Class III firearms (which all autos are). The machine gun ban that was enacted means that any full-auto weapon has to be owned by a licensed Class III dealer, and those approvals, while not hard, do cost mucho deniero. All we have are those floating around on the market: No new ones are being made for civilians (non-LEO or military) and no imports are allowed. It's a collector's market, bro.

| God of Scones | Yeah. I looked into NJ gun laws and having a supressor is a fourth degree crime. Ah well. My stepdad has a registered M-16 so I may try to buy it off of him for a cheap price and then register it in my name. |

A suppressor is a Title II item, while a machine gun is a Title III. Most likely, your dad has an AR-15 (the semi-automatic version) that your state requires to be registered as an assault rifle, even though it is only a Title I weapon. AR's are quite popular and you can buy and build those all day long for $400 upwards. The $22,000 I mentioned is for an actual M-16, which is a machine gun. And that your dad CANNOT sell/transfer to anyone except another Class III dealer (if he owned one). No biggie, but many people mistake an M-16 with an AR-15 while the two are just not the same in gun-folk talk.

| God of Scones | Yeah. I asked him and he said it was a AR-15. Either way, it looks cool. I hate NJ's strict gun laws. So once I'm out of high school, I'M MOVIN TO FLORIDA! |

| Nuclear Duck Hunter ![]() | Quotes from Founding Fathers before and after ratification. "The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves in all cases to which they think themselves competent (as in electing their functionaries executive and legislative, and deciding by a jury of themselves in all judiciary cases in which any fact is involved), or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of the press." --Thomas Jefferson to John Cartwright, 1824. ME 16:45 One loves to possess arms, though they hope never to have occasion for them. --- Thomas Jefferson to George Washington, 1796. The Writings of Thomas Jefferson, (Memorial Edition) Lipscomb and Bergh, St. George Tucker from the appendix of Blackstone's Commentaries on the Laws of England (1803), "The congress of the United States possesses no power to regulate, or interfere with the domestic concerns, or police of any state: it belongs not to them to establish any rules respecting the rights of property; nor will the constitution permit any prohibition of arms to the people;..." "If, for example, a law be passed by congress, prohibiting the free exercise of religion, according to the dictates, or persuasions of a man's own conscience or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people to assemble peaceably, or to keep and bear arms; it would, in any of these cases, be the province of the judiciary to pronounce whether any such act were constitutional, or not; and if not, to acquit the accused from any penalty which might be annexed to the breach of such unconstitutional act."

Welcome to Florida.... We're not called the GUNSHINE STATE for a nothing! Florida is about as pro firearm as any state can get. Only thing we don't have is open carry and that is slowly being changed.
