I've heard that the USA has enough coal reserves to last 120 years. Am I mistaken?
Hmmm. Do we really want to start burning coal left and right? Sounds messy and polluting. Besides, those estimates were probably made several years ago, at the rate at whichc they were used then. There probably has been an increase the demands since then, lowering the length of time they would hold.

Although, a deiversification of energy sources sounds like a feasible short-term solutution.

Why burn coal? We have the technology to turn into fuels instead of using oil

The funny thing is that Americans complain about gas price skyrocketing. I remember it was like 2,25 $ per gallon when I was in CA.
1 US gallon = 3,78 liters It means you guys pay 0,59 cent per liter.

Well, I pay 1,50 $ per liter (better stop laughing )

Ya'll should just start riding motorcycles. I average 49 MPG on mine, and I can out-accelerate Corvettes.

Seriously, the fuel price isn't something that will be changed even by voting in a completely new government at all levels. It is a world-wide phenomena tha requires an alternative fuel solution, not a new government.

I don't think there is anything that can be doen about gas prices.

Its about supply and demand. China energy needs, among other things is what driving it up.

No matter who is in office is not going to change it.

I have to pay at least 90$ now to fill up my Jeep, but I will take it and get used to it because I dont like a small car.

most of people have this attitude i think. Oil price looks so bad only because we look at the oil price 1 month ago.

let's just get used to it cuz some economists say oil price can be even higher.

The fact that the gas prices went up after hurricane Katrina is what erks me. If it only went up enough to cover the transport costs then I could see that. But it went up a crapload. I have heard (no idea if it is true) of some people in the bigger cities paying upwards of $4 a gallon (USD). The prices continue to rise. I would think it is called price gouging.

Taking advantage of a bad situation, not the whole supply and demand scenario. Put a cap on gas prices and I would be happy. Even if they cap it where it is now would be fine. Just put a stop to how much farther they can raise the prices.

It is just that the demand of oil from new rising power like India and China are too great and the capability of rising production is too low.

We have to get used to the price like this. In short time, there is no chance that the price will fall back to the one like we used to have 2 years ago.
