Stacking up bodies to the moon will not win an insurgency. . Bragging about how many you have killed in a combat operation is going to send more troops back home in aluminum flag draped coffins. Be sure that intensified Taliban revenge attacks, probably in the form of suicide bombers and IED’s will follow.

To win in an insurgency conflict you have to develop trust among the population. You have to demonstrate that their lives will be more secure, more prosperous, more fulfilling, more promising, under your governance than if they support your opponent in the conflict. You do not build trust by bombing civilian villages, creating unavoidable collateral damage, and by destroying blood and tribal relatives who may or may not be Taliban.

I Second what Seehund said! Back in 2008 when i was serving in the Province of Kapisa with the 1 REC (1 Foreign Regiment of Cavalries) we used to receive daily mortar shots towards our Camp's Area! our Commander's main objective was to hold meetings with Tribe Leaders to show them that we are still not responding to these shots but we know their coming from their villages & if the Tribes Chiefs won't do something to stop it in the coming 3 days, we will have to bomb down the whole area!
Interestingly enough, next day, the day after and for a whole long month, not a single mortar shot was fired! This doesn't mean we didn't see insurgents or engage with them during Outside Ops & Recon missions, but this assures u that if we had bombed the whole village the moment we had a mortar drop away the whole village would have came against us the next morning!
War is all about politics! if you get ur enemy's friend to be ur friend, ur enemy has lost!
Proudly enough, the whole Squadron came back after 6 months all safe and sound!

Great photos.
Always interesting to see what equipment other countries use.

A little advice about blurring. Remember also to blur the unit patches - there is much information in such a patch.

You know how you beat the taliban? Get rid of the news. The only reason that these operations can sustain any energy and recognition is because every mass media outlet around the world gives them all the publicity they could ever want. If you want to stop war do not battle it with an Anit-War rally. Battle it with a peace rally. Positive influences always win. Just think if everything on the news was positive instead of negative the mass affect it would have on the human population...

Yes of course!
It's obvious - we just need to take our boots and socks off and run around barefoot in Helmand's cornfields
while we sing "all you need is love"
