Would it? The Democrats are pushing more & more for direct democracy instead of the Representative Republic that the Founding Fathers set up. Originaly the Prez represented the Govt, the House-the people & the Senate-the States. The Supreme Court was the Referee in the background. By going to direct election of Senators the States are no longer represented, & everyone thinks the 3 sections all represent the people. Where's the balance in regard to the mob/masses? Now they want to abolish the Electoral Collage going to direct election of the Prez.
Prior to the Civil War there was the Kansas-Nebraska Act setting up Nebraska as a Free State & Kansas as a Slave State. A few years later the War started & both were Union States. How did that happen? An abolishonist group in New York studied the demographics & moved thier people into preselected locations in the State. When the next election happened they took control of the Kansas govt, abolished slavery & moved to Capitol to a different location. All by manipulating the system.
Ther's also comments by Hispanic groups about returning the Lost Territory in the South-West to Mexico or going Independant.
