| Actually there is another reason.
The MI-38 isn't a pure Russian chopper. It was designed by Euromil which is a joint organization of Russian and European military designers. Therefore it probably their European partners that insisted on a Western Engine probably due to the fact that its easier to get spares and that the Western engines are slightly better performers than there Russian counterparts.
