If your state outlaws suppressors, your dad does NOT have an M-16 (which is a fully-automatic rifle).

A suppressor is a Title II item, while a machine gun is a Title III.

Most likely, your dad has an AR-15 (the semi-automatic version) that your state requires to be registered as an assault rifle, even though it is only a Title I weapon. AR's are quite popular and you can buy and build those all day long for $400 upwards.

The $22,000 I mentioned is for an actual M-16, which is a machine gun. And that your dad CANNOT sell/transfer to anyone except another Class III dealer (if he owned one).

No biggie, but many people mistake an M-16 with an AR-15 while the two are just not the same in gun-folk talk.
