307th Engineer Battalion info
THE 307TH ENGINEER BATTALION WAS ACTIVATED AT CAMP GORDON, GEORGIA ON 5 AUGUST 1917 AND DESIGNATED AS A UNIT OF THE 82ND INFANTRY DIVISION. DURING WORLD WAR I THE REGIMENT PARTICIPATED IN THE MEUSE-ARGONNE, ST. MIHIEL, AND LORRAINE CAMPAIGNS. IT WAS DURING THIS TIME THAT IT EARNED ITS MOTTO, “I MAINTAIN THE RIGHT” WHEN IT PROTECTED THE RIGHT FLANK OF THE DIVISION BY REPULSING THE ATTACK OF A NUMERICALLY SUPERIOR GERMAN FORCE.
