The MPs up at the border, the JSA guys, are armed with the equipment you see in the movie. So it is correct.
The North Korean helmet does look an awful lot like a skinless, shiny version of the US M-1 helmet.
So I don't think they've got it wrong.
Me, I got a friggin' Vietnam era US M-1 helmet and a K-2.
