The headgear is a traditional thing in the green berets. You only wear it in the 8 weeks basic commando course. It itches like hell.
They also put a rope over you shoulders and behind your back, so your buddies can hold on to it when they are about to crash down. It happens alot. everybody get's his little 'moment'.
