I joined because I was originally in Boy Scouts, and it sucked. We did nothing but pay expensive fees to play hockey in a small church basement every week. Cadets offered an instant sense of discipline - more than could ever be found in Scouts. I also saw that cadets was like a basic introduction to the military - here I already know all of the ranks, appointments, chain of command, titles, how to lead, and much more, without being in the Army.
