Ah yes, it seems like I've been coming across this question for years. Some time in the distant future the answer will be found and then the world will end. In the meantime all I can come up with is this, and I warn you it's not very close and not even a movie quote. In Gore Vidal's book Screening History, which is at least about movies, he reminisces about the time when he and his father first encountered cellophane:

'Dupont just invented this,' he said, presenting me with a glassy cylinder. We unrolled the cellophane. 'What's it for?' I asked. 'Nothing!' He spoke with a true inventor's delight.
Doubtless Vidal has repeated this many times on television, as with most of his other stories.
