ONE SATURDAY, our avionics squadron was called into work at Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, Calif. I assigned one corporal the complicated task of doing extensive rewiring in an aircraft's cockpit. Later that day, our commanding officer strolled around the hangar. When he got to the aircraft where the corporal was doing the rewiring, he climbed the ladder and peered into the cockpit. "What are you working on, Marine?" he asked.

"I'm working on a weekend, sir!" the corporal replied.
