i hate spelling bees. languages should be simplified more. what ever happened to spelling a word the way it sounds?

Actually 'gh' is Old English.

Languages evolve but they also adhere to their roots. Language is also an expression of the culture. Just as culture's are complex, so too is language. Simplification may sound nice to those who place little value on literature, but to those that do it is comparible to painting the Mona Lisa as a stick figure.
