| There is a quote that the AATT-I (Australian Army Training Team - Iraq) are using as their motivation, it dosen't belittle the Iraqis and dosen't make us seem superior
"Better to let them do it Imperfectly themselves, than do it perfectly yourself, for it is their country - and your time is short."
T.E Lawrence, about training the Arabs, to fight the turks. Same people, same culture, different enemy.
I personally don't know about training an Army, the closest I have ever been to real military training, was hearing a few F88's going full auto at a range 1 and half kilometers away when I was at singleton army base, But I know that if you want people to fight willingly with you, you have to motivate them.
Threatening to kill them is motivation enough, but winning their hearts and minds, making your side look like the good guys, and that you do actually need their help, is a hell of alot better. Insulting them, and putting them down should be frowned upon, Not even Cadets do that.
The trainers, should treat them as they would any other recruit back home. I know when you are trying to teach, you don't treat them as an equal, that would undermine your authority, but you be polite, kind but forceful. Congradulate them on good things, correct them on bad things, reprimand for stupid things.
Make them feel as if they are doing something good for their people, don't get them to hate their people, or their trainers.
The AATT-I is doing a bloody good job in Iraq, if the problems are that bad for the Americans over there, maybe they should take a leaf out of the Australian's book.
