| They were able to fight for Saddam - because they knew what his iron hand would do if they didn't. Somehow it has to be made clear to them that they have a choice. They can either fight for themselves willing under American fostering or they can fight unwillingly for whatever stongman steps into the power vacuum should we leave too soon.
