Looking from recent events, this is no surprise.
France and Germany both sold Iraq a fair share of weapons. You could also throw in Russia. When it came time to deal with Iraq, those same countries were dead set on "peace" after arming Iraq.
If Europe goes ahead and arms China, what is going to happen if/when there is some kind of international conflict with China? Will Europe be able to see through the mountains of money to do the right thing? Selling weapons to people half way around the world is a common practice. The US is quite guilty of that practice. When it comes to Afganistan and Iraq, we have had to fight against our own weapons. I also saw French, Russian and German weapons while I was in Iraq. The US military has every right to be pissed off that the EU is going through with this.
Let's not forget about those countries who feel influenced by China's military might.
