During the 1980's, Iran posed more a threat to the United States then Iraq. I will use the cliche Iraq was the lesser of two evils. However, as soon as 1990 came around and Iraq invaded Kuwait, America and the United States had to step in and remove the threat that he had when he controlled Kuwait. Then after the war, his true evil came out with gas attacks on his own people. We tried to control him with sanctions but with constant violations he finally had to be removed from power in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Iran still poses a threat to American Security as it does with most of the world's non Islam population, but not as much as Iraq had when Saddam was in power.
